photographer michael j. demeo started following me on twitter and i returned the favor…soon enough i was checking out his tumblr, flickr and site and came across photographer alyssa noches (who happens to be his gf) .   i commented on one of alyssa’s fotos and was thrilled when she asked for my address to send me some prints!  a couple weeks later i found out that they were releasing their current zine “no thoughts 2″ for FREE.  the zine is full of excellent shots.  the print quality is one of the best ones i’ve seen.  the price is right.    you should ask for it.

you should also check out their site we are now in space

i’ve been wanting to do a print exchange program of sorts for awhile now.  you basically send me any print(s) (35mm, holga, polaroid, instax, etc!!!) and i send you a different print back!  the more people that participate, the better.

the only rules are: 1) you have to have taken the photo 2) write/label your shipping address clearly 3) prints should be 5×7 or smaller 4) go in with an open mind 5) have fun!

are you in?

from now till saturday 11/7 – TEN CENTS (.10) each print at walgreens.com with code: TENEACH

XENIA

PO BOX 2332

LA HABRA CA 90632-2332

a mix of inspiration came from film por vida, sticker traders, postsecret & the 1000 journals project

big thanks to my mom for being supportive of my crazy pen pal addiction when i was a teen.  she spent hundreds in postage.

last wednesday afternoon my husband surprised me with a trip to LA. it was our first time leaving the house at 1pm and we didn’t know what kind of traffic to expect… yep, it was bad. it took us about an hour to get there. our first stop was scion space in culver city. i wanted to check out the 2009 vice magazine photo exhibition.

the place is a little bit hard to find since it’s in the neighborhood. it’s a nice gallery though, really spacious and we had a good talk with kenton! he hooked us up with all kinds of shit too. i appreciate good convo with a genuine motherfucker, thanks kenton!

our next stop was the michael kohn gallery on beverly/crescent heights to check out the david lynch show. the photos were inspired by danger mouse & sparklehorse’s music from the “dark night of the soul“. i was a bit floored by the visuals only because i’m familiar with lynch’s films. my 3 year old favored the piece which featured a bloody arm.

the main gallery is connected to either another gallery or an office space. it was cordoned off but we were nosy and it was worth a peek…because there lived a beautiful ryden piece.

afterwards we indulged in chicken bowls at yoshinoya and had yummy scoops. i usually only have a bowl (it’s considered 2 scoops for $2.75 – can ya beat that?!) but the flavor selection was so good i got a refill (2 more scoops for only $1.75!) so in total i had blueberry marscapone, strawberry coconut, mango grapefruit and malt toffee. c had banana oreo and chocolate almond. the grapefruit in the mango grapefruit was a bit overpowering but still good for a hot summer day. i couldn’t resist!

i was hoping tae (owner and flavor creator) was around so i could tell him about my scoops photo that was published in the july/august 2009 issue of LA confidential magazine! THANKS SCOOPS!

there is so much stuff to do in LA, get out and see art! try different food! enjoy the city!

we didn’t hide colored eggs for the kids.  we got them up, dressed and headed out to LA.  our first stop was at Yoshinoya on the corner of melrose & vermont.  mmm yummy easter lunch!  after that we cruised on melrose to see what stores were open, nothing really caught our eye so we headed up to sunset to hit Meltdown.  they changed the layout since we last visited months ago and i prefer it so much more.  it’s much roomier and you can see the displays better.  the kids had fun playing on the rodys.  C & i picked up the hi-fructose box set.  it’s a beauty.  the 5 prints alone are worth the cost ($39.95) – i’m planning on doing a review in the next couple weeks.  2 things were depressing: looks like the secret base display cabinet is gone?! and that i didn’t have crazy money to blow.

but what we really went to LA for is SCOOPS.  turns out they were closed which we kinda expected.  it’s ok, they deserve a holiday lol  not wanting to go back home we went to check out the idiot box show at gallery 1988.  it was a really good show.  all the pieces were fantastic!!!

click on rudy to see the rest of the idiot box set!

i’ve been buggin’ my husband C for days about doing a little somethin’ somethin’ for my site.  he picked up a pack of pens at wal-mart today and after dinner, he asked me not to bother him, he put on his headphones and not even an hour later he calls me in to check out his work.  i’m floored, it’s everything i asked for.  i love this man, he’s a great artist!!! can you imagine what he could do if he really put his mind to it?

p.s. i love you

so i’ve been meaning to update but with work and the holidays..it just wasn’t happening.

i’ll probably do a year in review but these places need their own entry.

THE HUNDREDS / 7909 ROSEWOOD AVENUE / LOS ANGELES

so the place is small but they put out quality product and they aren’t going broke in the process by paying for a walmart sized shop. the crew is legit – at the shop and especially on their blog they make ya feel like your homies.

with gas prices low, i can never turn down a trip to LA so i urged C to go to the shop to pick up a shirt he’s been wanting. turns out, the shop didn’t have it in stock! but the guys were cool and hooked up some disney collabo stickers. sweet! he ended up ordering it online and they sent him more stickers!

REBEL 8

about a month or so ago when the rebel 8 / vans collabo dropped, joshy d. posted up an entry about peeps taking pictures with the window display…we happened to be in the area, i snapped a couple of the kid and emailed them. and true to his word, i received a box FULL of rebel 8 stickers!!!

we LOVE mike giant’s art.

in this day and age of wack workers and businesses that don’t give a fuck, these guys are doing it right. THANK YOU!!!

support small business, they show you love!
